01How we handle a case from Cádiz province
Cádiz province is large and varied: the capital and the bay, Jerez and its countryside, the La Janda coast, the Sierra and the Campo de Gibraltar. For an immigration application this makes little difference, because filing is electronic and the Immigration Office decides on the digital file.
For Cádiz clients we work online: an initial video call, a tailored document checklist, a review before filing and electronic filing under our professional certificate, which is compulsory for lawyers. If something must be done in person and you cannot do it, we have a network of collaborating professionals.
02The Cádiz Immigration Office and the Algeciras office
The Immigration Office of the Government Sub-delegation is at Calle Acacias, 2, in Cádiz city, open on weekday mornings. It handles residence and work permits, non-lucrative residence, family reunification, long-term residence, EU family member cards and appeals, among other procedures.
According to the Government Delegation in Andalusia, the Central Government Coordination Office for the Campo de Gibraltar, based in Algeciras, handles the same procedures. For people living in Algeciras, La Línea, San Roque or Sotogrande it is the nearer reference point, although in our cases filing is always electronic.
03Where TIE fingerprints are taken in the province
Once a permit is granted, the foreigner identity card is issued by the National Police by appointment. According to the official police office finder, these locations in the province issue the TIE:
- Provincial Immigration and Borders Brigade: Avenida de Andalucía, 28, Cádiz.
04The Campo de Gibraltar under the new agreement
The Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom in respect of Gibraltar was signed on 14 July 2026 and has applied provisionally since 15 July. According to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it establishes free movement of people between the Campo de Gibraltar and Gibraltar, with no passport checks between the two, and Spain takes over Schengen checks at Gibraltar's port and airport.
Movement and residence are different things. Crossing without checks does not give anyone the right to live in Spain. A British national who wants to live in La Línea, San Roque or Sotogrande needs a Spanish residence basis of their own: the Withdrawal Agreement TIE if they were resident before 2021, or a residence permit if they are arriving now. We look at each case carefully, particularly where the job is in Gibraltar and the home is in Spain.
05Who contacts us from Cádiz
Along the coast and in the Sierra there are British and other foreign residents who settle here to live without working or to work remotely. Around the bay and in Jerez we see many mixed families with a Spanish spouse, and students at the University of Cádiz.
Rota Naval Base adds a profile of its own. US personnel posted there are covered by a specific regime under the bilateral defence agreement; when a family member falls outside it, or someone decides to stay in the province after their posting ends, the general immigration rules apply and a residence permit is needed.
06Andalusian specifics
Family reunification requires an adequate housing report which, under the Immigration Regulations (Royal Decree 1155/2024), is issued by the regional government or, where the region has delegated it, the town hall, within one month. It must be no more than six months old when the application is filed.
Unmarried partners of Spanish or EU citizens can evidence the relationship by several means, including registration with the Andalusian Register of Unmarried Couples (Law 5/2002).
Frequently asked questions
I live in Algeciras. Do I have to go to Cádiz city?
Not to file the application, which we do electronically. For TIE fingerprints, the Algeciras and La Línea de la Concepción police stations are listed as issuing offices in the official police office finder.
I work in Gibraltar and want to live in La Línea. What do I need?
A residence basis in Spain. The Gibraltar agreement removes passport checks at the border but does not replace a residence permit. The right route depends on your nationality and when you settled; we will work through it with you.
I am British and was living in the province before 2021. Is my card still valid?
If you hold the Withdrawal Agreement TIE, yes, while it is in date; it must be renewed when it expires. If you still have the old green EU registration certificate, it is advisable to exchange it for the TIE.
My partner is Spanish and we live in Jerez. Which permit applies to me?
Residence as the family member of a Spanish citizen, which allows you to live and work in Spain. If you are not married, you will need to evidence a stable relationship, for example through registration in a partnership register.
Do you have an office in Cádiz?
No. We work online, by video call. If your case needs a one-off task in person, our network of collaborating professionals covers it.
Which British consulate covers me if I live in Cádiz?
The consulate in Málaga, which serves all of Andalusia by appointment. You will need it for British passports or documents, not for your residence in Spain.
