01Who settles in Ibiza, and what they need
Ibiza is home to residents from many countries who have chosen to live on the island all year round: families with their own income, creative and tech professionals working remotely, owners of hospitality, design or service businesses, and partners of European citizens. Formentera has a smaller, mainly residential community.
The usual routes are non-lucrative residence, the international remote work permit, the entrepreneur permit for a business project, the EU family member card and, after five years, long-term residence.
02How we handle an Ibiza case online
Our service is online across Spain, islands included. As registered Spanish lawyers we file your application through the electronic portal, with no need for an appointment at Paseo Joan Carles I. This matters in the Balearics, where the Delegation limits the number of appointments per digital certificate. Notifications are also delivered electronically.
You only need to travel for your TIE at the Eivissa police station. For any other one-off in-person step on the island we work with a network of local partners.
- First meeting by video call, in English or Spanish.
- Review of your income, activity, health insurance and housing.
- Document checklist, sworn translations and apostilles.
- Electronic filing with the Balearic Islands Immigration Office or the UGE.
- Guidance for the police appointment and collecting your TIE.
03Living on the island all year round
If you want to live in Ibiza on your own income without working in Spain, the route is non-lucrative residence. The first permit is applied for as a visa at the Spanish consulate where you live; renewals are later filed with the Balearic Islands Immigration Office.
On an island where housing is a deciding factor, we check your tenancy agreement or title deed with particular care, together with your financial means and health insurance with no co-payments. If you work remotely for employers or clients outside Spain, we consider the remote work permit, handled by the Large Companies Unit.
04Setting up a business in Ibiza
If your project is an innovative company or one of special economic interest, the entrepreneur residence permit is handled by the Large Companies Unit after ENISA issues a favourable report on the business plan. Not every activity qualifies: a conventional business usually needs another route, such as residence and self-employment.
We analyse your project before anything is filed and tell you plainly which route has a realistic chance.
05British and European residents and their families
British nationals who were resident on the island before 1 January 2021 hold a Withdrawal Agreement TIE; renewals and changes of address are handled at the Eivissa police station. The British Consulate on Avenida Isidoro Macabich sees British nationals from Ibiza and Formentera by appointment.
If your partner is an EU citizen, you can apply for the family member card. If you are not married, registering with the Balearic Register of Stable Couples helps evidence the relationship; both partners must be registered as resident in the islands and show one year of living together.
06Healthcare and life in the Balearics
Public healthcare on the islands is provided by the Balearic Health Service (IB-Salut). Access depends on your situation: paying Spanish social security, being a pensioner with a recognised entitlement or, for non-lucrative residence, holding private insurance. We explain what cover you need at each stage.
For students or researchers, the application is likewise filed with the Balearic Islands Immigration Office or the UGE, depending on the case.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to go to Palma for my immigration case?
No. Ibiza and Formentera have their own immigration unit in Eivissa, and in any case we file through the electronic portal. You only attend the Eivissa police station for your TIE.
I cannot get an appointment at the Eivissa Immigration Office. What can I do?
If you instruct us, you do not need that appointment: we file your application electronically as your representatives. You will still need to book the police appointment for your TIE, and we explain how.
I live in Formentera. Where do I deal with my paperwork?
The Government Delegation groups Ibiza and Formentera under the Eivissa office. Filing is electronic and, for the TIE, the reference police station is the one in Eivissa.
I want to open a restaurant in Ibiza. Does the entrepreneur visa work for me?
It depends on the project. The entrepreneur permit requires an innovative plan or one of special economic interest with a favourable ENISA report. If it does not qualify, we look at residence and self-employment.
I work remotely and want to spend the year in Ibiza. Which permit do I need?
Usually the international remote work permit, if you work for employers or clients outside Spain and meet the requirements on length of employment and financial means.
Do I need a lawyer based in Ibiza?
No. A registered Spanish lawyer can act anywhere in Spain and the process is electronic. We work online, by video call; for one-off in-person steps on the island we work with local partners.
