Immigration lawyer in Mallorca, working online

Mallorca brings together foreign residents who settle on the island to live, British and other European retirees, families where one partner is an EU or Spanish citizen and, increasingly, people who work remotely. We handle your application online and file it electronically, so you do not need to catch a flight for it.

In short

We run your Mallorca application online: we assess your case by video call, prepare the documents, file electronically with the Balearic Islands Immigration Office or the Large Companies Unit, and answer any request for further documents. You only attend the police for your TIE fingerprints, and local partners cover any one-off in-person step on the island.

01Who settles in Mallorca, and what they need

Most people who move to Mallorca come to live rather than to take up local employment: British retirees and others from outside the EU, families buying or renting on the island with their own income, partners of German, Nordic and other European citizens, and professionals working remotely for employers abroad.

For that profile the usual routes are non-lucrative residence, the family member card for partners of EU or Spanish citizens, long-term residence after five years and, for British nationals who were resident before 2021, the Withdrawal Agreement TIE.

02How we handle a Mallorca case online

Our service is online across Spain, islands included. Because we file through the electronic portal, you do not need an appointment at the Palma Immigration Office to submit your application, and notifications are also delivered electronically.

We organise the work so that you only travel when it is unavoidable, which in practice means the TIE fingerprint appointment. For any other one-off in-person step on the island we have a network of local partners.

  • First meeting by video call, in English or Spanish.
  • Review of your financial means, health insurance and housing on the island.
  • Document checklist, sworn translations and apostilles.
  • Electronic filing with the Balearic Islands Immigration Office or the UGE.
  • Guidance for the fingerprint appointment and collecting your TIE.

03Non-lucrative residence for island life

If you want to live in Mallorca without working in Spain, the route is non-lucrative residence. The first permit is applied for as a visa at the Spanish consulate where you live, and it is later renewed at the Palma Immigration Office. We go through the required financial means, health insurance with no co-payments and your housing documents with you.

If your plan is to work remotely for an employer or clients outside Spain, the international remote work permit usually fits better. It is handled by the Large Companies Unit, also electronically.

04British nationals in Mallorca

British nationals who were resident in the islands before 1 January 2021 hold a specific Withdrawal Agreement TIE. Renewals, replacements and changes of address are dealt with by the National Police, by appointment. If you were resident then but never registered, it is worth reviewing what evidence of residence you have kept.

If you settled later, you need an ordinary permit. We help you work out whether non-lucrative residence, the remote work permit or, if your partner is Spanish or an EU citizen, the family member card applies to you.

05Families and couples on the islands

Families where one partner is an EU or Spanish citizen are common in Mallorca. The family member card is handled by the Balearic Islands Immigration Office. If you are not married, registering with the Balearic Register of Stable Couples can help evidence the relationship; both partners must be registered as resident in the islands and show one year of living together.

After five years of continuous legal residence you can apply for long-term residence, which gives you more stability and makes moving within the EU easier.

06Consulates in Palma

The British Consulate in Palma is at Carrer Convent dels Caputxins 4 and sees the public by appointment only. The United States has a consular agency at Porto Pi 8 for passports, birth registration and notarial services, covering the whole archipelago.

If you need criminal record certificates or civil documents from your home country, we explain how to obtain and apostille them so they arrive in time.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to go to the Felicià Fuster Immigration Office to submit my application?

No. As your representatives we file through the electronic portal. An in-person appointment is only needed if you go yourself. You will still need to attend the police for your TIE fingerprints.

I live in Menorca or Ibiza. Can you handle my case too?

Yes. The Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands has offices in Maó and Eivissa as well as Palma, and electronic filing works the same way. We tell you which police office covers you for fingerprints.

I am British and want to retire to Mallorca. What do I need?

If you were not living in Spain before 2021, usually non-lucrative residence, which starts with a visa at the Spanish consulate in the United Kingdom. We review your income, health insurance and housing before filing.

My partner is German and we live together in Palma without being married. Can I live here with them?

You can apply for the EU family member card as a partner. Registering with the Balearic Register of Stable Couples helps evidence the relationship. We assess which proof to provide.

How can I find out the status of my application?

The Delegation lets you check your case status online and by SMS. If you instruct us, we keep you informed of every step and of any request for further documents.

Do I need a lawyer based in Mallorca?

No. A registered Spanish lawyer can act anywhere in Spain and the process is electronic. We work online, by video call; for one-off in-person steps on the island we work with local partners.
