Immigration lawyer in Madrid, working online

Madrid is where many companies, consultancies and international bodies have their Spanish base, so it is also where a large share of executive and professional relocations end up. We handle your application online and file it electronically before the Madrid Immigration Office or the Large Companies Unit, depending on your route.

In short

We run your Madrid application entirely online: we review your documents by video call, file through the government's electronic portal and follow the case through to a decision. The only step you attend in person is the police fingerprint appointment for your TIE. If a one-off in-person step is needed in Madrid, we rely on our network of local partners.

01Why Madrid has its own immigration profile

A large part of corporate mobility into Spain runs through Madrid: executives moved by their group, professionals hired by consultancies and technology firms, and the families who come with them. Many of these applications never reach the provincial Immigration Office. They go instead to the Large Companies and Strategic Groups Unit (UGE), which processes permits under Law 14/2013 electronically.

Alongside that profile sit the usual procedures: renewals, family reunification, residence cards for family members of Spanish or EU citizens, and Spanish nationality by residence. Each has its own competent authority, and choosing the right route at the outset avoids requests for further documents and lost months.

02How we handle a Madrid case online

Our service is online across Spain. In practice Madrid does not require us to be there: a registered lawyer files through the electronic portal, and notifications are also delivered electronically.

For the one step that does require you in person, the TIE fingerprint appointment, we tell you which police office covers your address, what to bring and how to book. If a one-off in-person step comes up in Madrid, our local partners cover it.

  • First meeting by video call, in English or Spanish.
  • A document checklist built around your case, reviewed before filing.
  • Electronic filing with the UGE or the Madrid Immigration Office.
  • Case tracking and replies to any request for further documents.
  • Guidance for the fingerprint appointment and collecting your TIE.

03Professionals and companies: the UGE route

If your employer is relocating you to Madrid or hiring you as a highly qualified professional, the application usually goes to the UGE. The same applies to the EU Blue Card, intra-company transfers, researchers, entrepreneurs and international remote work. It is an electronic procedure, so where our office sits makes no difference to how it is processed.

We work with your company's HR team on the corporate and role documents, and with you on the personal and family side. When your family is moving with you, we prepare the spouse and children's applications at the same time.

04Families, renewals and nationality

Permits outside the UGE are handled by the Immigration Office of the Government Delegation in Madrid. That covers family reunification, most renewals and the residence card for family members of Spanish citizens. Spanish nationality by residence is decided by the Ministry of Justice instead, and is also filed online.

If you live with a partner without being married, registering with the Community of Madrid's Register of Unmarried Couples can help evidence the relationship. Among other conditions, it requires twelve months of registration at the same address. We help you decide whether and when it makes sense.

05Fingerprints and the TIE in Madrid

Once your permit is granted, you must apply for your foreigner identity card within one month of entering Spain or of the grant. In Madrid city, TIE cards are issued by the Foreigners' Documentation Section at Avenida de los Poblados s/n, next to Aluche metro. Several local police stations in the region also provide documentation services.

EU citizens and their registration certificates are dealt with at Avenida de Padre Piquer 18. Police appointments are booked through the government's appointment website, and we explain how to do it.

06Consulates and documents from abroad

The British Consulate General at Paseo de la Castellana 259D covers Madrid and central and northern Spain. The US Embassy is at Calle de Serrano 75. Both see the public by appointment and may be needed for passports, certificates or legalisations your application calls for.

If your visa is applied for at a Spanish consulate in your home country, we align the Spanish filing with your consular appointment so that no document expires along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to go to the Calle Silva Immigration Office to submit my application?

No. As your representatives we file through the Mercurio electronic platform. The in-person appointment that the Delegation assigns by email is meant for private individuals who must appear and cannot use that platform.

My company is transferring me to Madrid. Does my case go to the Immigration Office?

Most intra-company transfers and highly qualified hires are processed by the Large Companies and Strategic Groups Unit, electronically. We review your case to confirm the route before preparing the documents.

Where are TIE fingerprints taken in Madrid?

In Madrid city, at the Foreigners' Documentation Section, Avenida de los Poblados s/n (Aluche metro). If you live elsewhere in the region, a local police station with documentation services may cover you. An appointment is always required.

I am an EU citizen. Where do I get my registration certificate in Madrid?

EU registration certificates are handled at the police office at Avenida de Padre Piquer 18, by appointment. If your family members are not EU nationals, their family member card is a separate application, which we can handle.

Do I need a lawyer based in Madrid?

A Spanish lawyer can act anywhere in Spain and filing is electronic, so the location of the office does not affect your case. We work online, by video call. For a one-off in-person step in Madrid we have local partners.

Can we work with you in English?

Yes. Meetings, emails and explanations of your case can all be in English. Filings with the authorities are made in Spanish, and we send you an English summary of what has been submitted.
